The mission of the Atlanta Speech School is to help each person develop his or her full potential through language and literacy. 
 
The Atlanta Speech School is currently seeking applicants for a full-time position of Occupational Therapist for the 2012-13 school year. The therapist will contribute to a collaborative teaching team in the Stepping Stones program and also serve clients in our outpatient Occupational Therapy Clinic. The Stepping Stones program provides therapeutic preschool services for children who are experiencing early communication delays and secondary motor/sensory integration weaknesses.
 
POSITION SUMMARY:
The occupational therapist is responsible for the delivery of a high quality therapeutic and educational experience for each child within a class. Along with the speech language pathologist/lead teacher, special education teacher, and assistant teacher, the occupational therapist will implement weekly lesson plans that support the Stepping Stones curriculum as well as individualized motor and sensory-based goals to meet the developmental needs of three and four year old students. In the outpatient Occupational Therapy Clinic comprehensive evaluation and intervention services are offered to children from birth to adolescence, in a state-of-the-art facility. Intervention is provided for children with sensory, motor, perceptual, functioning, or developmental difficulties.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF THE JOB:
Creatively plan and teach aspects of a high quality therapeutic instructional program for a classroom of 10 to 12 preschool children with a variety of communication and fine motor/sensory delays; addressing sensory-motor, visual-motor, and visual perceptual areas of development
Conduct ongoing review and periodic assessment of skill development and prepare written progress reports for each student
Contribute to a minimum of three conferences per year with parents of each student
Establish an effective system for communicating with parents, colleagues, and outside personnel regarding children's development
Work collaboratively with speech language pathologists, special education teachers, and psychologists to ensure exemplary services are provided for each child
Provide goal-directed and evidence-based intervention services in the OT clinic based on individualized therapy plans for each client
QUALIFICATIONS &amp; REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:

Master&#8217;s degree in occupational therapy with specific experience serving preschool students with developmental delays
A current Georgia license, and certification with the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy
An understanding of the interaction between language, learning, sensory processing, and neuro-motor development
A sound theoretical knowledge of current pediatric practices in the field of Occupational Therapy, knowledge of typical child development, and an interest in sensory integration.
Must attend Bright From the Start training and other required training as specified by the program coordinator
A commitment to ongoing professional development. Experience working with children in a group, with individualized goals
Excellent oral and written communication skills

POSITION SUMMARY:
The lead teacher is responsible for the delivery of a high quality educational program for each child in the class and works as a member of a collaborative teaching team. All teachers are expected to have knowledge and understanding of child development across cognitive, language, social, and motor domains.  Instructional planning and classroom organization and management techniques are planned and modified to meet the specific needs of the class.  In addition, teachers are expected to have effective teaching skills, an analytical approach to learner differences, and assume responsibility for monitoring and ensuring progress.
